Principle Investigator

Ajay Perumal - Assistant Professor

Dr. Ajay Perumal is an Assistant Professor at Department of Physics in Indian institute of science education and research (IISER) Berhampur, Odisha, India. He obtained his M.Sc from University of Stuttgart/ Max Planck Stuttgart, Germany (2007). He pursued his PhD at Technical University of Dresden under the guidance of Prof Karl Leo (2012). He went on to do postdoctoral work in Imperial college London (2012-2015) under the guidance of Prof Donal Bradley and later second postdoctoral in NTU Singapore @ Luminous! and Energy research institute (ERIAN) under the guidance of Prof. Subodh Mhaisalkar and Prof Hilmi Volkan Demir.

In his research career, he has focused on a wide variety of novel materials (metal oxides, organic semiconductors, polymers, quantum dots, perovskites) and novel nano-structures produced through a range of fabrication procedures. He has focused primarily on the electronic and optical properties of novel semiconductor materials and nano-structures and their implementation in optoelectronic devices. His primary research interests are light emitting devices and photovoltaics. His research work has been published in many high impact factor journals such as Energy and Environmental Science, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials and Advanced Energy Materials etc.

His current research interests can be categorized into:

  • Semiconductor materials, nano-structures (Quantum Dots, Metal Oxide Materials) and devices

  • Light emitting devices (QD-LED, O-LED, Perovskite-LED) and Solar energy conversion through photovoltaics

  • Opto-electronic properties of organic and molecular semiconductors

  • Printed photovoltaic devices (Perovskites)

  • Flexible, stretchable and transparent electronics
